Case Study: Arc Greater Twin Cities
The Challenge
Arc Greater Twin Cities is a non-profit group dedicated to securing for all people with disabilities the opportunity to realize their goals and is one of the most well-known charitable organizations serving the disabled in Minnesota. Arc Greater Twin Cities came to Net Dynasty looking to redevelop their web site to be more friendly and accessible to the disabled. The key challenge facing Arc Greater Twin Cities, with respect to the design of the web site, was merging brand consistency, look and feel, usability, traffic flow, content, and technical requirements into a site that answered their diverse audience personas.
The Solution
After several accessibility and usability studies performed with Arc members, staff, and stakeholders we determined the following:
- Many web site visitors were leaving the site due to an inability to read content that was displayed too small on the screen.
- The web site was not visually inviting and was perceived as "sterile" by many web site visitors.
By developing calls-to-action that focus on the needs of each audience persona, visitors are guided both directly and visually to the information that is most relevant and important to them. Additionally, dozens of accessibility techniques have been included in the design and programming of the site that drastically improve the usability of the web site.
The Benefit
- Stakeholder approval of the web site's usability and overall attractiveness was increased dramatically from the initial usability study.
